Relegated Heartland Football club of Owerri is set to commence moves that will ensure its quick return to the Nigeria Professional Football League, NPFL especially in a prudent manner that will also empower youths in the state.
According to a release made available to SPORTS AMBASSADOR sports desk, the club will commence immediately an exercise that will identify hidden talents at a very young age which will quickly fit into the clubs philosophy and objectives.
The long awaited ‘flash’ screening exercise to identify and select young endowed footballers by Heartland FC of Owerri will kick off on Monday, 7th November 2016. The club management has announced.
Heartland FC Team Manager and Atlanta ’96 Olympic gold medalist, Mobi Oparaku said camp will open by 9.00AM at the Claretian (Maryland) Seminary, mini Stadium, Old Road Nekede which is on the outskirt of Owerri, on Monday.
“This exercise is open but strictly for those who are young and have what it takes in natural talent, knowledge and ambition to play football,” he said.
The former Nigerian right back said the programme which has been described as a flash project, will target youths between the ages of 16 and 25 coming from both the communities and cities and would last for just one week after which those selected would be given opportunity to participate at a lager screening exercise that will hold later in the year.
“The idea is to locate natural footballers who can easily adapt to what we are doing. We know a lot of people can play and that a lot of people can also be packaged to play but we can identify those who are gifted and can at the same time play,” he stated.
