In a bid to honour the labour of our hero who collapsed and died of congestive heart failure in the 77th minute of a world cup qualifying match against Angola at the National Stadium Lagos on the 12th of August 1989, 2015 governorship aspirant under the All Progressive Grand Alliance, APGA, and Chief Executive Officer of Okechukwu Theodore Ezeh Foundation (OTEF), commissioned the inaugural match of Sam Okwaraji Memorial Football Tournament at the Sam Okwaraji Sports Complex in Orlu last Saturday.
Addressing the mammoth crowd, Mr. Okey Eze who gave an inspirational account of his relationship with the late football legend noted that the tournament is aimed at discovering young football talents throughout the 27 local government area of Imo state as exceptional talent during the competition will be groomed by international football trainers who have natured team like Galatazary to further enhance their talents in the international space.
The benefactor described late Samuel Sochukwuma Okwaraji as an icon, an international brand, a lawyer who had a master’s degree in international law with pedigree and high repute, pointing-out that Nigeria today is in need of committed role models like the late legend who is willing/ready to sacrifice for the country to move forward.
While admonishing youths in Imo state to shun violent agitation and other social-vices, Mr. Okey Eze urged them to take advantage of their talent as a tool against the current recession as he revealed that the tournament will be an annual tournament.
