New Heartland Technical Adviser, Emmanuel Deutsch recently picked 24 players for training tour which is currently taking place at the National Sports Commission Zone 6 facility at Nkwogwu Aboh Mbaise.
The list according to a release by the clubs media Officer, Solomon Onu was released last weekend in a bid to trim down the squad.
Assistant coach of the relegated side, Ezekiel Onyegbula says the 24 man list does not mean automatic place in the team but represents the Technical crew’s first draft cut as they tinker to get the best legs available.
He however insisted that the door is still open for exceptionally gifted players to join the team.
Meanwhile the gaffer has praised the commitment and professionalism of some of the older players who have been working extremely hard in training and charged them to do more in the days ahead insisting that there is no substitute for hard work.
In a related development, the management of Heartland FC Owerri has concluded plans for a closed door meeting with older players of the club with the view of pruning down the size of the team and for effective use of their talent Sports Ambassador learnt.
Source however claims the club also plans to cut down the salaries of the players since they have gone down and to urge them to intesfy their effort towards returning the club back to the elite division.
