The Imo State Commissioner for Sports Development, Hon. Obinna Onyeocha, has unveiled plans to identify and nurture sporting talents from the grassroots, with the aim of transforming the state’s sports sector. This initiative, as reported by Silver News, was highlighted during Onyeocha’s recent visits to various football competitions across the state.
In his remarks, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of engaging young talents early and fostering collaboration with stakeholders, including sports professionals in the diaspora.
“As a youthful Commissioner, I am committed to changing the narrative and ensuring that sports in Imo State reach their highest potential,” Onyeocha stated. “We are focusing on grassroots development to identify and nurture talents at an early stage. Our goal is to make sports an integral part of every community in the state.”
Onyeocha also expressed gratitude for the progress made so far, attributing it to divine guidance and support. He noted that the ministry’s efforts are only just beginning, with plans to sustain and expand the initiative annually.
“This is just the beginning. Next year will be bigger and better. We have received assurances from the diaspora that they are ready to collaborate, and I believe this synergy will yield remarkable results. By combining efforts, we aim to uncover hidden talents and improve their lives,” he added.
The Commissioner called for robust partnerships among stakeholders to strengthen the initiative and ensure its sustainability. With this grassroots approach, Onyeocha is optimistic that Imo State will become a hub for exceptional sports talent in the near future.
