The 2016 edition of the Ugwumba Unity Football Competition for all the 9 communities in Nkwere LGA Kicked-off with fun-fair at the Eze Ugochukwu stadium Complex, Nkwere on Tuesday.
The annual tournament is powered by Chied Uche Nwosu (Ugwumba), the chief of staff to his Excellency the Executive Governor of imo state, Owelle Rochas Okorocha.
In the games curtain-raiser, defending champions Amaokpara were subdued by Nkwere Community 2-1 in a keenly contested encounter that was witnessed by a mammoth crowd. recall that the unlikely victory recorded by Nkwere was the first since 2006 over Amaokpara.
Speaking to Sports Ambassador desk shortly after the interested game, the TC chairman of Nkwere state Constituency, Barr Paschal Onwukaike praised the resilient effort the doner, chief Uche Nwosu for sustaining the Tempo of the youth oriented activity thanking him for all hi good work which in so small measure has placed the LGA on the line light.
He however commended all the participating teams charging them eschew characters that will may undermine the aims of the tournament. Barr Onwukaike while urging the players to avail themselves the opportunity to actualize their dream with their God’s given talent assured citizens of the LGA, rescue mission’s readiness to bring succor to them by providing basic amenities including the grading of roads in the area ahead yuletide period.
Adding his voice, one of the noble citizens of Nkwere and serious supporter of Ugwumba Movement, Hon Clifford Eze (Ometere Nnadi-one of Eziama-Obaire) availed that talents are bound in Nkwere insisting that future Kelechi Iheanacho’s will be discovered at the best organized cup tournament East of the Niger.
Other dignitaries who attened the opening ceremony includes ,Acting Director of Sports Imo state Sports council, Austin Atasie, Naze Mc Anthony Ahamefula, DG Ugwumba Movement, Chief Festus Ahumaraeze, Sir Amos Uche Akanno, Hon C O Odinaka ( Agentius), Barr Anthony Onuoha, Coach Joe Chimezie (Sports council ), All Ugwumba Co-ordinators in Nkwere, Isu Njana, Nwangele federal Consistency and many others.
