The former Executive Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema Council Area of Imo State and immediate past lawmaker who represented the State Constituency in the House of Assembly, Hon Chief Luke Chukwu has revealed that his unity Cup tournament remains a consolation goal to the people of his home town ,Umuapu Autonomous Community.
Speaking to Newsmen last Sunday during the 10th Kick-off ceremony of the football Competition held at Umuapu Central School, Hon Luke Chukwu disclosed that the annual tournament always brings Joy and unity among the Community dwellers since there is no electricity supply in the area for many years ago.
He noted that the football tournament was designed to fish out talents that would form part of his proposed football team that will be challenging all variable and effective football teams in Imo State.
“ I owned and sponsored one of the reigning clubs in Owerri, sometime we came up to division 1 in the State but because of the behavior of some of the players , I decided to draw the curtain .
I regret why I did not sack all the bad eggs and continue, although that’s what am trying to correct now as we intend to fish out talents at the end of tournament.
We went to Ogun State during my reign as the Executive Chairman of Ohaji/Egbema where we came back with 12 medals.
Sports is in me, I am a wrestler as well as footballer, my name is written in Gold in Imo State Sports Council”, he said
The immediate past Lawmaker for Ohaji/Egbema further informed Spots Ambassaddor consolation prizes have been set aside for all the winners in the competition including first, second and third positions as well as best player, highest goal Scorer among others.
He therefore advised his people to embrace peace and unity throughout and beyond the tournament period.
